FotoFirst — Loic Vendrame Catalogs the Unfinished Buildings Resulted from Spain’s Crisis

For today’s Cameo 27 year-old French photographer Loic Vendrame presents his previously unpublished project Future Rust Future Dust, a series of landscape photographs showing the unused buildings and unfinished structures that the economic crisis left behind in Spain. See here for all the photographers who previously made a Cameo in FotoRoom.
Ciao Loic, how are you?
I’m really good, thank you. It’s a great pleasure for me to be featured on FotoRoom!
What is photography for you?
Photography started as a hobby for me, and it still is in a way. But now it’s more than that—it’s how I express myself, an excuse to discover new places, and a way to show people things that are normally out of our radar.
What is Future Rust, Future Dust about?
This project marks a turning point in my photographic practice. Before working on this series I’ve only ever done “pure” architectural photography; with Future Rust, Future Dust I dedicate myself to a subject matter that combines urbanism, geography (which is I what I studied), landscapes and architecture in a different way.
I’ve worked in two regions of Spain (the areas near Madrid and Murcia-Alicante) to photograph buildings that were abandoned or left unfinished due to the housing crisis of the recent years, with the goal of showing what damage men and their thirst for money can do on nature and the lives of other people. I’ve always been fascinated with abandoned places, and this body of work is a perfect mix of all my favorite themes. Next, I’d like to continue the project in countries like Greece, the United Arab Emirates, China, etc.
Where can you be found online?
You can follow my work on my website, and I’m on Instagram.
