Han Shiyang Captures Ordinary Moments of Luminous Beauty

Ciao! Your name?
Han Shiyang.

I’m 24.

Beijing, China.
What is photography?
Through aesthetic appreciation, humans can obtain a grand and wonderful feeling that touches their heart. Therefore, people want to save this kind of emotion, and photography becomes the best way to do so. Different from words and audio recordings, photographs as visual language can record elements we heavily rely on like the light, angle, and movement of a particular moment. Through these elements we can reproduce a scene that affects us. My photographs are of moments that touched my heart. In those moments, I feel as if my life suddenly makes sense.
What is Whispers about?
This body of work is a collection of various moments that naturally occur. I want to perpetuate my experiences rather than let them disappear. Whether it is a layer of misty fog on the window, or a piece of crumpled paper, the existence of everything has its meaning. The series is not about objects themselves, specific locations or the concept of time; it’s about the conversations among the photographs. These moments are ordinary but also sparkling, somehow like a floating whisper telling an untold story. The photographs reveal sheer beauty – sheer beauty is real, and it manifests itself all the time. When we follow these clues, these moments, we might find our own answers.
