Italian photographer Lorenzo Vitturi‘s Dalston Anatomy is a very creative, eclectic photobook. The work was inspired by the Ridley Road Market, a bustling, multiethnic, colorful street market in London’s district of Dalston, where exotic fruit and veggies, meat and fish, bright clothes and fabrics in Africa-inspired patterns are sold. Here, sellers promote their products using the oldest of marketing techniques: yelling at passers-by to take a look at their goods.
For Dalston Anatomy, Lorenzo Vitturi put together food, objects and materials found at the Ridley Road Market into sculptures as fancy as ephemeral, and combined them with the portraits of the market’s characters. The final outcome is an irresistible and extremely creative series of colourful photographs, a vibrant translation of the Ridley Road Market’s atmosphere. Dalston Anatomy is also a beautiful, self-published photobook (made in collaboration with SPBH Editions), which last year made many top-ten-best-photobooks-of-2013 lists, including that of Martin Parr, whose authority in the photobook industry is no less prominent than that of the Pope in the Catholic Church.
