UPDATE — Due to a busy schedule, selecting the winners of the #FotoRoomOPEN edition they juried is taking the Rubber Factory team a bit longer than expected. Don’t worry thought: once a decision is made, we’ll share the news all over the place—here, in our newsletter and on all of our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter). Stay tuned!

———

Yes, you read the title right: we’re psyched to announce that for the new edition of #FotoRoomOPEN we’ve teamed up with New York based Rubber Factory gallery, who are happy to offer one of you the opportunity of having a solo show at their gallery in early 2018. With the new call, we’re also dropping the theme limitation, so you’re free to submit any work regardless of theme, style or approach: anything goes. Read on for all the details, submit your work, and good luck!

The Juror — Rubber Factory Gallery

Rubber Factory is a young, up-and-coming gallery based in New York’s Lower East Side. The gallery specializes in conceptual works often combined with installations that highlight the process used by the artist; but there has been space at Rubber Factory for photographers using a more documentary approach, like Clemens Fantur (whose work—true story!—they first saw on FotoRoom) and Farhad Rahman.

Currently on view at Rubber Factory is Women in Colour (open until next 27 September), a group show curated by Ellen Carey that explores the role of female photographers in the history of color photography. The show includes works by 15 artists including Cindy Sherman, Penelope Umbrico and Elinor Carucci.

The Opportunity (Plan A) — Have a Solo Show at Rubber Factory Gallery

Mike Tan, the founder and director of Rubber Factory, is happy to offer one of the photographers who will participate in #FotoRoomOPEN | Rubber Factory edition the fantastic opportunity to have a solo exhibition at his gallery for the duration of two to three weeks next January 2018 (exact dates have yet to be established).

The Opportunity (Plan B) — Participate in A Group Show at Rubber Factory Gallery

In the eventuality that Rubber Factory won’t find any of the applicants to be a good candidate for a solo show, the gallery is willing to create a group show including the work of multiple participants. The number and modalities of the (potential) group show will depend on the selected projects, so unfortunately it’s impossible to be more precise at this stage.

The Theme — No Theme!

Starting with the Rubber Factory edition, our #FotoRoomOPEN calls will no longer have a theme. Also, no restrictions apply in terms of the chosen photographic genre, style or approach. You just have no excuses not to submit! :)

Who Can Participate, and in What Categories

Only FotoRoom members can enter #FotoRoomOPEN | Rubber Factory edition. Remember: signing up gives you access to not just one but all #FotoRoomOPEN calls that run while you’re a member. Sign up today!

Members can enter in two categories:

— Single Image (open to both Amateur and Pro members);
— Series (open to Pro members only).

Please note that only the winner of the Series category is eligible for the opportunity put forward by Rubber Factory. The winning entries in both the Single Image and Series categories will appear on FotoRoom and—as has been the case in the past—we may decide to feature a selection of non-winning entries as well.

Submission Guidelines

To enter the Single Image category, please send a maximum of 3 pictures.

To enter the Series category, please send a maximum of 10 pictures from the same project. It’s currently not possible for Pro members to submit more than one series, but they can submit in both the Single Image and Series category.

You should send your images via WeTransfer to calls@fotoroom.co in one PDF document per submission (so, if you’re submitting for both the Single Images and Series categories, you should create two separate documents).

Each PDF must include the following information about you:

1. Your full name and current location
2. A short text, introduction or project statement.
3. A link to your portfolio website (if you have one)
4. An email address we can use if we need to get in contact
5. The email address you used to sign up as a FotoRoom member (in case it’s different from the contact email).

Copyright and Terms of Use

All submitted images must be in the sole ownership of the entrant and not infringe on the copyright of any other party; full ownership of the copyright for every submitted image remains with its author.

By submitting your images to the #FotoRoomOPEN | Rubber Factory call you grant FotoRoom the possibility to use the submitted images—properly credited—on its website and social media with the exclusive purpose of promoting your work and the FotoRoom platform.

The Deadline

#FotoRoomOPEN | Rubber Factory edition closes next 15 November 2017 at midnight (Central European Time). Winners will be announced in early December.
