Berlin, 5AM — Gergana Petrova Photographs the Nightlife of Germany’s Capital City

These days we’re sharing a selection of works we particularly liked of those submitted to the now closed #FotoRoomOPEN | Rubber Factory Edition. (Did you have a look at our current #FotoRoomOPEN call? It’s juried by Germany’s top agency OSTKREUZ, who will represent the winning series internationally. Enter your work today).
For today’s Cameo we’re having 29 year-old Bulgarian photographer Gergana Petrova. Gergana’s Berlin, 5AM is a diaristic series of photographs that chronicle her experiences of Berlin’s nightlife. See here for all the photographers who previously made a cameo in FotoRoom.
Ciao Gergana, how are you?
Здрасти, I’m great thank you:)
What is photography for you?
Photography is my way of communicating: I am an introvert and a bit awkward in conversation—if I could only express myself in pictures, gifs and emoji! It is also the thing that makes me most happy.
What is Berlin, 5AM about?
It is about finding and losing love and the search for peace of mind… It was all shot during the night. In summer, the sun rises at 5AM in Berlin—this was surprising for me, as it is not so in my homeland. The series is the result of how I experienced the city’s nightlife, anxieties, loves, solitude and everything in between.
Where can you be found online?
Here’s my website, and I’m on Instagram.
