Eliza Bourner Questions the Sexualization of Young Girls
For today’s Cameo we’re having 23 year-old British photographer Eliza Bourner. Eliza shares with us Girls, a series of staged portraits that questions how young girls and women are generally expected to look. See here for all the photographers who previously made a cameo in FotoRoom.
Ciao Eliza, thank you for this interview. How are you?
Very good thank you!
What is photography for you?
For me, photography is an instrument to communicate an idea or a feeling in a way that is open to interpretation and to the different perspectives of the audience, which I find really interesting.
What is Girls about?
Girls is about the conflicting expectations of sexualizing young girls, and at the same time wanting adult women to look younger and younger. I wanted to capture a sort of ‘limbo’ between girlhood and womanhood, and show the awkwardness of outdated stereotypes of femininity when it comes to the female sex.
