Having a solo show is an important recognition for any photographer, so we’re very grateful to JEST, a photography space in northern Italy, for creating the opportunity of hosting a solo exhibition of works by the next #FotoRoomOPEN winner. Read on to find out more about JEST, send your submission, and good luck!
The Juror — JEST
JEST is a young photography space (and a photobook shop) that inaugurated in January 2016. The space was established by Francesca Cirilli, a photographer and photography teacher, and Tommaso Parrillo, the founder of photobook publishing house Witty Kiwi. So far, JEST has exhibited the works of emerging Italian photographers like Federico Clavarino and Valentina Abenavoli, but they’re happy to consider work from international photographers as well (in fact, the talented Max Pinckers also had a show at JEST). Besides their program of exhibitions, Francesca and Tommaso promote the culture of contemporary photography through workshops, talks and other events.
JEST is located in Turin, a major Italian city in the north of the country that has recently shown an increasing interest in contemporary photography (besides JEST, another important space for photography called Camera opened in the city in 2015).
The Opportunity — Have a solo show at JEST
Francesca and Tommaso are offering those who will participate in #FotoRoomOPEN the chance of exhibiting their work in a solo show at JEST (the dates and duration of the show will be established at a later time).
Who can participate, and in what categories
Only FotoRoom members can enter #FotoRoomOPEN | JEST Edition. Remember: signing up gives you access to not just one but all #FotoRoomOPEN calls that run while you’re a member (a new one opens every two months), on top of unlocking resources like our useful FotoCal. Become a member today!
Members can enter in two categories:
— Single Image (open to both Amateur and Pro members);
— Series (open to Pro members only).
Important notes (make sure you read these!)
#FotoRoomOPEN | JEST edition is open to all photographers, no matter what your age, gender or nationality is. The call has no theme: you’re free to submit any work regardless of subject, style or approach. Anything goes!
Please note that, as always, only the winner of the Series category is eligible for the opportunity offered by JEST. In the circumstance that the JEST team, at their exclusive discretion, did not deem any of the applications a good fit, the “prize” will remain unassigned.
The winning entries in both the Single Image and Series category, as well as a selection of shortlisted submissions, will be published on FotoRoom.
To enter the Single Image category, please send a maximum of 3 pictures.
To enter the Series category, please send a maximum of 10 pictures from the same project. It’s currently not possible for Pro members to submit more than one series, but they can submit in both the Single Image and Series category.
Images must be sent via WeTransfer to firstname.lastname@example.org in one PDF document per submission (so, if you’re submitting for both the Single Images and Series categories, you should create two separate documents).
Besides the images, each PDF must include the following information about you:
1. Your full name and current location
2. A short text, introduction or project statement.
3. A link to your portfolio website (if you have one)
4. An email address we can use if we need to get in contact
5. The email address you used to sign up as a FotoRoom member (in case it’s different from the contact email).
All submitted images must be in the sole ownership of the entrant and not infringe on the copyright of any other party; full ownership of the copyright for every submitted image remains with its author.
By submitting your images to #FotoRoomOPEN | JEST Edition you grant FotoRoom the possibility to use the submitted images—properly credited—on its website and social media with the exclusive purpose of promoting your work and the FotoRoom platform.
#FotoRoomOPEN | JEST edition will closes next 31 May 2018 at midnight (Central European Time). Winners will be announced in June 2018.
