We’re excited to announce that for the latest edition of #FotoRoomOPEN we’ve joined forces with Format, a fantastic service to build and maintain an online portfolio website tailored to the needs of creative artists. The winner of #FotoRoomOPEN | Format edition will receive a $1,000 award, half funded by Format and half by FotoRoom. We’re also very happy that an enthusiastic photography advocate like Andy Adams has accepted our invitation to jury the call and assign the award. Read on for all the details, submit your work, and good luck!
The Sponsor — Format
These days it’s essential for contemporary photographers to have an online portfolio to show their work to the rest of the world. Young and fast-growing company Format offers all creatives—photographers included—the possibility to create an online portfolio website, fully customizable in every detail through an intuitive and polished editor. If you’re looking to also sell your prints or photobooks, Format gives you the option to integrate your site with a fully-fledged online store that can be easily set up in a few minutes. Don’t take our word for it, though: give Format a 14-day free trial.
The Juror — Andy Adams
The #FotoRoomOPEN | Format edition will be juried by culture producer and digital director Andy Adams. In the last years, Andy has been promoting contemporary photography culture online through his renowned FlakPhoto platform, the organization of digital exhibitions and the active use of social media to share contemporary photography news. In particular, Andy is the creator and host of the FlakPhoto Network, a popular Facebook group with over 15,000 members where photographers are invited to join and discuss everything photography.
The Opportunity — Win a $1,000 award / free Format Pro plan
As the sponsor of this new #FotoRoomOPEN edition, Format have kindly offered to assign the Series category winner a $500 award. On top of that, we as FotoRoom have decided to add another $500 ourselves: #FotoRoomOPEN launched in January 2017, and both the number and quality of submissions we received for the first six editions that have run so far exceeded our expectations. We thought this would be a nice way to say thank you and give something back.
Besides the $1,000 award, there are three Format Pro plans (free for the first year) to win: one for the Single Image category winner, who will be selected by the juror Andy Adams; and one for the recipient of a special mention, selected by Format in each category.
Who can participate, and in what categories
Only FotoRoom members can enter #FotoRoomOPEN | Format Edition. Remember: signing up gives you access to not just one but all #FotoRoomOPEN calls that run while you’re a member. Become a member today!
Members can enter in two categories:
— Single Image (open to both Amateur and Pro members);
— Series (open to Pro members only).
Please note that only the winner of the Series category is eligible to win the $1,000 award. The winning Single Image and Series will be published on FotoRoom, along with a shortlist of favorite submissions in both categories.
The #FotoRoomOPEN calls have no theme: you’re free to submit any work regardless of subject, style or approach. Anything goes!
To enter the Single Image category, please send a maximum of 3 pictures.
To enter the Series category, please send a maximum of 10 pictures from the same project. It’s currently not possible for Pro members to submit more than one series, but they can submit in both the Single Image and Series category.
Images must be sent via WeTransfer to firstname.lastname@example.org in one PDF document per submission (so, if you’re submitting for both the Single Images and Series categories, you should create two separate documents).
Each PDF must include the following information about you:
1. Your full name and current location
2. A short text, introduction or project statement.
3. A link to your portfolio website (if you have one)
4. An email address we can use if we need to get in contact
5. The email address you used to sign up as a FotoRoom member (in case it’s different from the contact email).
All submitted images must be in the sole ownership of the entrant and not infringe on the copyright of any other party; full ownership of the copyright for every submitted image remains with its author.
By submitting your images to #FotoRoomOPEN | Format Edition you grant FotoRoom the possibility to use the submitted images—properly credited—on its website and social media with the exclusive purpose of promoting your work and the FotoRoom platform.
#FotoRoomOPEN | Format Edition closes next 30 March 2018 at midnight (Central European Time). Winners will be announced in early April 2018.
